Among Archer’s international activities has been chairmanship of the FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarious Committee on Food Hygiene; membership on the WHO expert advisory panel on food safety; and service as U.S. representative to the International Standards Organization. Before coming to UF, Archer served as deputy director of the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, where he supervised the research, regulatory and policy activities of all foods and cosmetics programs including food additives, food labeling, special nutritionals, seafood and cosmetics and colors.
