Jessica Kramer directs the Youth and Young Adult Empowerment, Leadership and Learning (YELL) Lab to
develop and evaluate tools and interventions that empower youth and young adults with developmental disabilities. Jessica's research draws upon theoretical concepts and methodologies from occupational therapy, disability studies, education and rehabilitation to partner with youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the development and evaluation of rehabilitation products, develop community-based interventions that equip youth with I/DD and their families with the skills to identify and resolve environmental barriers to participation and design high quality patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) using contemporary measurement approaches.

To explore concurrent validity, convergent validity, interrater reliability, test–retest reliability and Rasch model analysis of the School Participation Questionnaire (SPQ), a tool for teachers to assess personal and environmental determinants of school participation. Teachers of children with additional support needs, including intellectual disability, autism and learning difficulties completed measures.
How people with intellectual and developmental disabilities on collaborative research teams use technology: A rapid scoping review.
Journal of applied research in intellectual disabilitiesI-Ting Hwang, et. al
2021-06-15
We conducted a rapid scoping review to identify how inclusive research teams use technology during the research process that could support remote collaboration during public health emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic. We searched three databases and conducted a hand search. Two independent reviewers screened 1498 abstracts and titles for inclusion criteria and 81 full text articles were further reviewed and 47 were included.
Interrelations between factors related to physical activity in inactive adults with knee pain.
Disability and rehabilitationNirali Shah, et. al
2021-03-09
The purpose was to explore interrelations between factors related to engagement in physical activity in inactive adults with knee pain. Inactive adults with knee pain participated in six focus groups designed to inquire about barriers and facilitators related with engagement in physical activity. Directed content analysis and inductive thematic analysis were used to identify factors related to physical activity and associated interrelations respectively.
Inclusive approaches to developing content valid patient-reported outcome measure response scales for youth with intellectual/developmental disabilities
British Journal of Learning DisabilitiesAriel Schwartz, et. al
2020-10-06
Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are increasingly used in health care to evaluate service quality and client progress. Response scales are a critical component of PROM content validity and must be designed to be relevant and comprehensible by users. In collaboration with eight youth co-researchers with intellectual/developmental disabilities ages 14–21, we used an iterative, three-stage approach to develop and select a response scale for the PEDI-PRO.
