Stephanie A. Smith is a professor of English at UF where she teaches both literature and creative writing. She is the author of two books of criticism, "Conceived By Liberty" and "Household Words;" and of the novels "Asteroidea: A Novel," "The Warpaint Trilogy: Warpaint, Baby Rocket, Content Burns," "Other Nature," "The Boy Who Was Thrown Away," and "Snow-Eyes." Her short stories have appeared in "New Letters," "Asimov’s Science Fiction," and "The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction;" creative non-fiction and scholarly essays in journals such as "Differences: A Journal of Feminist Cultural Studies," "American Literature," and "Genre." Her most recent short story “MighTy” was published in the online literary magazine "Moveable Type."

Back during the late summer of eighty-five, when I was about to leave Berkeley for good, everything was big: big hair, big eyeglasses, women’s shoulder-pads out to here mimicking the styles of the forties, and death was big in the headlines, although there was, at last, a reliable blood-test and the Red Cross was going to use it. An older acquaintance of mine, an epidemiologist, rolled his eyes and shook his head.

Annette Kolodny (b. 21 August 1941) is an American literary and cultural critic and College of Humanities Professor Emerita of American Literature and Culture at the University of Arizona. Kolodny’s early feminist work in the 1970s influenced a later generation of writers and scholars, particularly in the fields of feminist theory, eco-criticism, literary-environmental studies, and eco-feminism.
